DEMENTIA AWARENESS WEEK
21th May - 27th May 2018
Once again we will be supporting Dementia Awareness Week this year.
This is an important opportunity to increase understanding of Dementia and raise its profile. Dementia can be scary and many people don't know where to turn. By raising this awareness, the hope is to create a Dementia Friendly Environment.
Dementia is a condition of the brain. Symptoms include memory loss and difficulties with thinking, problem-solving or language. These symptoms occur when the brain is damaged by certain diseases, including Alzheimers disease, the most common cause of Dementia.
Alzheimers is a progressive disease, which means that gradually, over time, more parts of the brain are damaged. As this happens, more symptoms develop and they become more severe. There is currently no cure for Alzheimers but there is a lot that can be done to enable someone to live well with the condition. Colour and contrast can help with sight and perception for a Dementia sufferer.
Research has shown that good use of colour can facilitate Independent Living by identifying key features in and around the home. The following products are specifically designed to aid independence for a Dementia sufferer for as long as possible which in turn can help provide dignity and quality of life.
Some of these products are now available from our High Street shop or on our website. See below for more details:
